DescriptionThis app is designed to help kids develop comprehension skills early in the process of learning to read. Using this app, kids who are reading at Guided Reading Level C become skilled at reading simple passages and answering text-based multiple choice comprehension questions. The format and problems were developed and authored by experienced educator Anne Gardner (Nationally Board Certified in the U.S. in Literacy). This app is ideal for use in either a classroom or home setting. It is recommended that a parent or teacher work through the first couple passages with students. Once students are familiar with the format of the multiple choice questions, this app can be used independently. Each word can be touched individually to hear its pronunciation. The format of passages and questions mirror the assessments that many Kindergarten and First grade students now take at school. Working with this app is a fun way for students to build confidence approaching these assessments! These word problems are designed with the rigor of the following Kindergarten and First Grade Common Core standards in mind: ELA-Literacy.RL.1.1 – Ask and answer questions about key details in a text (for the beginning of the year). ELA-Literacy.RL.K.1 – With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text. ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3g – Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words (for beginning of year words). ELA-Literacy.RF.K.3c – Read common high-frequency words by sight.
