Pocket Universe: Virtual Sky Astronomy by Craic Design
DescriptionNew! Prepare for the Transit of Venus. Track your observations and compete with friends using Achievements! With iPhone 4S and new iPad you can literally speak your question using Dictation, on other devices you can type it. Note: There is a slight bug in that if you open the Transit of Venus, the app will reset its clock every 30 seconds to the current time. If you wish to view future events, restart the app and all will be well. Sorry! Have you ever looked up at the night sky, and wondered what exactly you were looking at? Pocket Universe is an easy-to-use app that will help you learn constellations, bright stars and planets. You can literally hold up your iPhone 3GS/4 or iPad in front of you, and the app will use the built-in compass to display the same view of the sky you see – but one that's complete with names and information. Then explore the Solar System, and take virtual walks on the surface of the Moon and Mars, before playing a game to help you learn the names of the stars. For support or to ask a question, feel free to send a direct message on Twitter to @CraicDesign or email info@craicdesign.com. “The app works beautifully, making astronomy a bit less mysteriousbut no less remarkable”, MacWorld “Its truly an impressive marvel. 5 Mice out of 5”, MacWorld. “..one of the prettiest and easiest to use. And at three bucks, its a steal”, Cult of Mac. Augmented Reality Pocket Universe was the first iPhone astronomy app to support the built-in compass, and it was also the first to add a true augmented reality view using the iPhone's built-in camera! Use the camera view in the evening or morning sky to overlay the labelled view over the real sky. Simply hold up your iPhone in front of you, and the view will be exactly what you see – but with names and information at your fingertips. Move the iPhone around to see the view change in real-time. As previous iPhone models and the iPod Touch do not have a compass, the up/down movement is automatic, but you will need to drag the display left/right yourself. Apple App Store Staff Favorite Key Features Easy-to-use astronomy application, which focuses on helping you answer the question “What's that in the sky?” Please note: Network access is only required to view supplementary web-based news and Wikipedia text. Specifications Plots the position of the Sun, Moon and Planets (including Pluto) Note: Non-English localizations focus on solar system objects and constellation names. Translations will be expanded with future releases. What's New in Version 4.6.1Are you ready for the Transit of Venus, on June 5/6? Pocket Universe will help you track it in this latest update. This version also fixes some bugs that got into 4.6 with all the excitement of adding Achievement support, and being distracted by the Annular Eclipse of May 2012. The most important fix is the correction of the labels in the Moon map to actually point to their intended targets. New! Track the Transit of Venus Customer ReviewsPocket Universe (5 stars)
