First Grade Addition Application:

Practice addition and reinforce first grade addition with this App.

Choose a category, such as adding numbers up to six, press “Start” and see whether or not you can solve 20 problems in one minute. Many schools require that their first grader can solve 20 addition problems (where the sum is from 0 to 20) in one minute. This app helps them achieve this goal.

The categories:

Random “Double” Numbers that sum to 10 or less (5+5, 4+4, 3+3, etc.)
Random “Double” Numbers that sum to 20 or less (10+10, 9+9, etc.)
Random Numbers up to 6
Random Numbers up to 10
Random Numbers with both numbers less than 10, but sums up to 20
Random Numbers with at least one number greater than 10, but sums 10 to 20

Instead of just random numbers, these categories help students build and reinforce their addition skills. Limiting the time and the number of questions gives students an achievable goal and because the app is free of distractions, students focus on the task. As goals are achieved, students feel proud of their accomplishment which drives them forward to achieve the next goal.

This app provides positive feedback for correct answers and tells students when they got something wrong (and gives them the correct answer – simple addition skills combine memorization with the ability to figure it out).

Each session consists of 20 questions within a category; the session lasts one minute or less if all 20 questions are answered. At the end of the session a score is provided.
